From landscape to destination

Some places begin with a business plan. Others begin with listening.

Destinations by Stinessen is an approach to developing places where architecture, nature, experience, and atmosphere form a complete whole, long before the first building takes shape.

This is not about designing a hotel. It is about shaping a destination.

A different starting point

Every destination begins with a location, but few truly begin with it.

Our work starts in the landscape itself: the light, the silence, the climate, the topography, the rhythms of nature and human presence. Before programs, volumes, or numbers, there is an understanding of what the place wants to become. From this foundation, destinations emerge that feel inevitable, as if they were always meant to exist exactly there.

Nature as the main experience

Nature is not a backdrop.
It is the main attraction.

Our projects are shaped to heighten the relationship between people and their surroundings, whether through framed views, material choices, light, movement, or silence. The goal is not escape from the world, but reconnection to what matters: time, presence, solitude, and shared moments.

“We aim to create places that feel inevitable, as if they were always meant to exist exactly there.”

— Snorre Stinessen

More than buildings

Destinations by Stinessen are not collections of objects. They are carefully composed environments.

Projects may include:

  • Accommodation
  • Food and dining
  • Wellness and retreat
  • Experiences and activities
  • Gathering, reflection, and solitude

But these are never treated as separate components. They are designed as one continuous experience, from arrival to departure.

Architecture, interiors, furniture, landscape, and atmosphere are developed together, guided by a single vision.

An authored process

We work with destinations the same way he works with architecture: intuitively, precisely, and personally.

The process is:

  • Holistic – from concept to execution
  • Site-specific – every decision grounded in place
  • Experience-driven – focused on how it feels, not how it looks
  • Quietly bold – confident restraint rather than spectacle

This is a collaborative process with investors and operators, but one where the integrity of the place is always protected.

Proven, not theoretical

Throughout his career, Snorre Stinessen has been involved in projects that started with little more than a location and grew into internationally recognized destinations. Places that people travel to because of the experience they offer. Places that feel rooted, timeless, and deeply connected to their environment. These projects have received global recognition, not for being loud, but for being meaningful.

“The goal is not an escape from the world, but a reconnection to what truly matters.”

For developers and brands

Destinations by Stinessen is aimed at partners who:

  • See long-term value over short-term trends
  • Understand that authenticity cannot be copied
  • Want to create destinations people return to, not just visit
  • Value nature, restraint, and quality as assets

This approach is particularly suited for brands and investors working within high-end hospitality, retreat concepts, and experience-driven destinations.

A conversation, not a pitch

Every destination begins differently. There is no fixed formula. We always start with a conversation about place, ambition, and intention. If you are exploring the possibility of developing a destination that grows out of its surroundings rather than being imposed upon them, this may be the right place to begin.
