Located in a rare archipelago on the northwest coast of Norway, the Almendingen group of islands are being revived as a coastal society, although this time offering two very private retreats in the vicinity of a small modern family farm.
The layout and architectural approach are designed to create a balanced relationship between the buildings, forming a small community that responds sensitively to the surrounding landscape.
The family farm is the result of a resourceful family’s dream of relocating to a rural life in close interaction with nature. The farmhouse is situated on a small private island, sheep grazing the islands and seaweed farming are the main activities, combined with select high-end hospitality.
Nordbu
A carefully placed retreat designed to embrace the beautiful views balanced with privacy it sits just above the landscape with a minimal footprint landing on the island.
Skjåholmen
Inspired by how this private island rises out of the sea, this building continues the curve to create a luxuriously airy sheltered retreat. The wave-shape of the roofs creates a generously sheltered space planned as a carful interaction of indoor and outdoor spaces.
How it works
Each property is developed on a selected site as a complete architectural concept. Clients acquire the project with the possibility to adapt key elements to their needs. Stinessen remains involved throughout the process, while construction is carried out through contract with a carefully selected contractor.
